This course is a requirement for most child care workers in early childhood education, daycares or day homes. The course will also be valuable for parents, grandparents or anyone who would like to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to handle deal with child and infant emergencies.

Course Description
Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Course: The CPR course required for Healthcare Providers (HCP). This course includes CPR skills for adult, child and infant combined with AED training. (No First Aid Content).

The course covers single- and multi-rescuer basic life support skills with a focus on high-quality CPR, use of Bag Valve Masks and team dynamics both for prehospital or in-facility scenarios. The BLS Provider course is required for nursing staff at Alberta Health Services, Dental Hygienists and other health care professionals. It is also the prerequisite for anyone taking the ACLS course. It is approved by the Heart and Stroke Foundation and follows ILCOR guidelines.

Full course topics covered are:

• Adult 1 and 2 Rescuer BLS - CPR
• Adult Chest Compressions only
• Adult Breathing (Airway management, use of Barrier Devices, Bag-Mask Devices)
• Infant and Child 1 and 2 Rescuer BLS- CPR
• AED for Adult, Child and Infant
• Airway Obstruction (Choking skills) for Adult, Child, and Infant

Course Description
The Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Renewal Course is meant for healthcare providers who use their BLS skills regularly. This course places a strong emphasis on high-quality CPR using the Bag-Valve-Mask, AED and various CPR for adults, children and Infant ratios.

To qualify for the renewal course, you must have:

• A current (not expired) Heart and Stroke BLS Provider Certificate (no grace periods or extensions) or;
• Or A current BLS Health Care Provider from another agency such as (Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance etc.) + completion of the prerequisite challenge.
• A health care who uses the skills on a regular basis
• If you certificate has expired, you will need to take the full course.
• Pre-requisite challenge links will be sent once you have registered.

• Online component: - takes participant 1 – 2 hours
• In-class component: 2 hours – hands on skills

Course Description
Canadian Red Cross Babysitter Training is intended for ages 11 -15 and you feel responsible to start caring for other children without any direct adult supervision.

The Babysitting course has a greater emphasis on First Aid skills. The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children, including giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency.

• Managing childhood behaviours such as tantrums, fears etc.
• Skills for caring for children from feeding, diaper, dress, and activities to do with children including babies
• Resume writing tips, advertising and business basics
• First Aid Content includes:
• Check, Call, Care (includes phoning EMS/911),
• Prevention, glove removal, recovery position,
• Conscious choking (child/baby/alone),
• CPR (baby/child),
• Handling illness such as asthma (includes use of inhaler and spacer),
• Anaphylaxis (includes use of EpiPen),
• Poisoning, insect stings,
• Wound care (i.e. minor cuts and scrapes, splinters, nosebleeds, bumps and bruises, life-threatening bleeding, burns),
• Head, neck, back injuries, broken bones and seizures

Course Description
The Stay Safe! program teaches applicable and age-appropriate skills, while increasing and reinforcing a youth’s capacity to improve his or her own safety. Whether in their community or on their own, this group will be given better tools to Stay Safe! in a variety of different situations.

• Importance of setting and following rules around safety when staying on your own
• How to stay safe at home and within the community
• How to prepare, recognize and respond to unexpected situations, (i.e. inclement weather, strangers, unanticipated visits)
